What We Offer

Newborn home phototherapy is a specialized clinical service that allows infants with neonatal jaundice to receive essential treatment in the comfort and safety of their own home, rather than in a hospital setting.

For many parents, this service provides a bridge between medical necessity and the desire for early bonding. Here is a breakdown of how it works and the benefits it offers.

What is Newborn Home Phototherapy?

Most newborns develop some level of jaundice, caused by an accumulation of bilirubin in the blood. When levels are high enough to require treatment, phototherapy (light therapy) is used to break down the bilirubin so the baby’s body can eliminate it.

Traditionally, this required a readmission to the hospital, requiring a minimum of 24-hour stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Home phototherapy utilizes medical-grade, portable LED phototherapy bed that deliver the exact same therapeutic blue light spectrum as hospital units, but in a domestic setting.

How the Service Works

  1. Clinical Referral: A pediatrician identifies that the infant’s bilirubin levels are elevated but stable enough for home management.

  2. Equipment Setup: We deliver a portable phototherapy unit to the home. This often include a small phototherapy bed.‍ ‍

  3. Continuous Monitoring: While the baby receives treatment, the parents track feeding, diaper output, and temperature. The provider will be available for questions or concerns 24/7.

  4. Daily Lab Checks: To ensure the treatment is working, a daily blood draw (heel stick) is necessary to check bilirubin levels until the jaundice is resolved.  (Optional service)

Key Benefits for Families

  • Enhanced Bonding: Parents can stay close to their newborn without the stress of a clinical hospital environment.

  • Feeding Support:  Phototherapy can be shortly interrupted for breastfeeding and diaper changes.

  • Reduced Infection Risk: Staying home limits the infant's exposure to hospital-acquired infections.

  • Cost-Effective: Home-based care is frequently more affordable than an extended stay in a neonatal or pediatric unit.

  • Professional Guidance: Families receive one-on-one education from a specialist who can focus entirely on their specific needs and environment.
