 Home Phototherapy: Fast Facts

Overview

We provide high-intensity, 3D Light Array phototherapy treatment, bathing babies in gentle, effective light, exceeding AAP guidelines, and accomplishing optimal results while minimizing discomfort for newborns and parents.  This is a “Blue LED” system treatment option of uncomplicated neonatal hyperbilirubinemia in the home setting, avoiding hospital NICU admission.

Clinical Criteria & Safety

Equipment: Skylife Neonatal Phototherapy system.  Choose from 3 levels of irradiance: Low 30 + 5 uW/cm^2/nm, High 45 + 10 uW/cm^2/nm, & Very High >55 uW/cm^2/nm.  www.theneolight.com

Spectrum: Targeted Blue LED range of 430–475 nm (peak at 458 nm), optimized for maximum bilirubin photo-oxidation.

Patient Profile: Best suited for infants born at gestational age > 38 weeks or  >35 weeks per pediatrician’s discretion, > 48 hours old, clinically well with adequate feedings, no known neurotoxicity risk factors (eg. sepsis, acidosis, or hemolytic disease), no previous phototherapy, the serum Tbili is no more than 1 mg/dL above or 2mg/dl below threshold, and the LED-based phototherapy bed is available to home without delay (within 2-4 hours from serum bili result).  

Adherence: We provide 24/7 phone support to ensure parents maintain maximum "skin-to-bili bed" time.  An optional overnight RN stay may also be available.

Before offering phototherapy at home, call 904-750-1344 to ensure service availability. 

  • Offer Home Phototherapy to parent(s), informing them of a $500 professional fee that is not covered by insurance and is due at the time of service..

  • Email doctor’s signed & filled out Order Form and copy of baby’s insurance card to healathome26@gmail.com

  • Insurance:  Inform insurance company of the Statement of Medical Necessity (SMN) for home phototherapy.

  • Delivery: We deliver and set up the equipment within 2-4 hours of the order.

  • Education: A licensed professional trains the parents, including proper positioning, eye protection, and hydration monitoring.

  • Monitoring: We can coordinate daily TSB (Total Serum Bilirubin) draws and report results directly to your office in a timely manner if parents prefer lab draws at home.
